Hello there Friends, Seamus the Irish Leprechaun here      for   Paddy, he tends to get embarrassed talking about ‘imsel, so to speak. Lets get on with it.

Paddy, from Bangor Co Down Ireland, first started entertaining when Lonnie Donnegan was leaving his Chewing gum on the Bedpost overnight, and his old man was a Dustman. His first band contained a Fiddle Banjo a Side Drum and Accordian, from this he went  to Skiffle and won his way to the top of the charts with a band called, "The Black & White Checkers". Joining the British Army (Royal Military Police) 1961 changed Paddys way of life considerably but not his love for music particularly Country Music, this carried on in the Army and over the ensuing  years he sang and played in many countries with  many nationalities.

In Berlin 1965 at the US Army PX (NCO's Club) he met up with Guitarist,Tennessee Billy 'T' who  accompanied Hank Williams Jnr, Slim Whitman and others, Paddy sang a Lefty Frizzel song "Letter edged in Black".

Paddy's last tour was in the Australian Army (RAA Pro) from 1970-1974 after leaving the British Army in Malaya. In 1974 Paddy joined QANTAS Security for a period and saw service in Bombay India where, he sang for a full month on stage with a most unlikely band of Indians, Sax,  Doublebass, Piano and Paddy on Guitar, after comically calling it a Banjo to the amusement of the band Leader.

Returning to Australia to settle with his family Paddy  started to form his own band, The Plainsmen”, he went to the Peachtree Inn, Penrith there he sat dressed in his C&W finery with his wife, Patricia  while listening to the resident Sunday afternoon band. Invited to sing he asked the lead guitarist if he knew, "Letter edged in Black", at this point  there was a great reunion as the guitarist was non other than Tennessee Billy 'T' from Berlin.

"The Plainsmen" changed to "Keep it Country" when later Paddy and Billy,Steel / Banjo /Mouth Organ &  Lead joined forces, to form a formidable team of musicians along with  Brian Dalkin, Comedianne Extradinoire & (Drums) and Charlie Camilleri (Bass) Rock Vocals & Graham Ashcroft, Lead / Back up Vocal. This lasted till 1984 when Paddy had to give up full stage work due to a Traffic Accident, this was the beginning of the Rock & Country Disco era as Paddys wife was working for Handicapped Childrens Centre at Woodford NSW. Paddy entertained them and other groups for the next ten years raising funds for many including the “The Special Olympics “,  he also spent 21 years entertaining and compereing the now famous,  “St Marys Spring Festival “, fronting up to as large a crowd as 75,5000 the last few years. he also assisted Channel 7 with Billy on a series of, Heart Foundation Venue's.

If there was something to be done for the community, The Irish Cowboy always seemed to be in the middle, if it meant raising funds, and Community Radio was certainly part of it. On the Blue Mountains Radio 2 BLU, boomed out its country music segment each week and "Keep it Country "won Paddy a position in the 1994 Tamworth  "Top Six Awards" for radio presentation. From there to WOW FM St Marys where he spent many happy hours assisting management and presenting the same format programme for the western suburbs listeners. He also got involved with Graeme Selby (Convoy for Kids) with a full days live production, a venue that raised  over,$74,000 for Care Flight and the Childrens Hospital. 1994.  Again 1995 raised over $84,000 for the same event and again broadcast to air with WOW FM with Paddy leading the team.

Paddys last ten years saw him working for the University of Western Sydney, finishing as the AV Manager at Westmead, during this time the Disco was flourishing and he spent a memorable 87 weeks at, Horsley Park Tavern.  Now retired due to ill health,  Paddy continued to be heard on Community Radio,Great Lakes FM 101.5 every Wednesday night with Country Two Triple "OOO" of course still with Seamus the Irish Leprechaun, (he he that’s me). On arriving in the Manning Valley was heard on 2 BOB FM Community Radio.

Paddy and his good wife, Paticia  are now  settled in the Manning at Wingham west of the manning river,  and are happy to be a part of such a friendly atmostphere and wonderful  way of life, Bowling, Fishing and Radio. Paddy Breeds very Special Cockatiels and Budgies, as Companion birds to elderly and others who want them.

Paddy wass President of Manning Point Senior Citizens Association, sang with the  Mid North Coast CM Association and Glouster CM Assoc Inc; when he could.

He would just love to hear from local / overseas  musicians or associated industries with Country Music or interviews for his radio programme, now on 2TLP, Taree, an Aboriginal Station, where he now entertains with, “Country Two Double “O” Three”  every Wednesday from 10am to 2pm, Interviewing Australia and world wide (*)  For Local residents reading this,  you would just like to request a song, phone  the station (02 6551 3131) or e-mail Paddy at home, from this web site. One of his pleasures is reading Bush Ballads or  Bush Stories to a CM background, he has to his list of  Storytellers & Poets, Dorothy Marsh (Grotty Aunt Dotty) Penrith, John Vouden Tuncurry, Tom Page & Clare Brown , Harrington, & Olive Tewkesbury & Ida Hewitt, Old Bar, Tony Bosch Manning Point, James Southerland and  Dot Sheen Wingham..

Oh yes and P/S, Paddy's Dad who passed away 1937, in 1934 was seen with some fellow called Logie Baird in Belfast NI, transmitting on a  Chrystal  Set, first room to room, House to House, and then, well the story of Radio is vast. Paddy cut his teeth on the cage of a Mic off shore in the fifties, but we are not allowed to say too much about that, sorry Caroline. Then Berlin, Malaya, Vietnam..

Paddy finished with the St Marys Spring festival having done 25 years in all, and the same secretary, Billie Randall Passing away sadly on the 25th year, Paddy did eulogy befitting that of a Star of Stage Screen and Radio, to the tune of Patty Loveless, ”Someday I will Lead the Parade.

Paddy also had much pleasure working with a Bruce Asmus for many years, Bruce from Asmus Productions, spent over 60 years in Radio.
